BRIAN
LA SPADA
CRUISERWEIGHT
1993-2002
Brain LaSpada was born in Buffalo on 11/26/72 and boxed as an amateur
in the city being trained by Ring 44 Hall of Famer Jimmy Ralston before
turning professional. He fought mainly in the cruiserweight division
from 1993-2002 compiling a record of 28-8-2 with 13 KOs. He was trained
by Roger Mayweather and promoted by Buffalo's Rick Glaser for most
of his professional career. In 1995 he won the vacant NABF cruiserweight
title in Las Vegas over Art Jimmerson by disqualification and would
defend that title twice. That landed
him a WBA world title shot against champion Nate Miller on national TV.
Miller won by a TKO in the 9th
of a scheduled 12. LaSpada fought J.C. Gomez (future world champion)
for the WBC International Title
in Germany in 1996, losing by TKO in the 11th round. After the Gomez fight
LaSpada stopped Edgerton Marcus in the 8th round to claim the WBO NABO cruiserweight
title.
Brian twice fought world title contender, Dale Brown (draw and loss), the loss
would cost him the NABF title. Brian came up short in fights for the WBF and
WBO Inter-Continental titles near the end of his career. His last fight was
7/26/02 against Javier Mora where he suffered a TKO loss. LaSpada currently
lives in Las Vegas.
Tonight Ring 44 is proud to enshrine Brian LaSpada in the Buffalo Boxing Hall
of Fame.
